Fall Lust: Colored Denim

Fall is just around the corner and fall fashion is out on the racks!  One of the biggest things I’m lusting after is colored skinny denim!  J Brand Jeans has one of the prettiest selection of colors!

My favorite hues are the red and purple!!  Some of my favorite celebs have been sporting these shades!

Completely extreme looks for Purple Jeans! How chic and easy is Nicky Hilton’s look!

Red jeans look casual and comfy!  Are you brave enough to color block like SJP?

I’m currently on the hunt for Purple and Red that fits my body and budget best!  Through a little searching on polyvore and google, you can find colored denim from $23 or $190

Miss Sixty tapered pants, $80, Pink skinny jeans, $24, Cheap Monday straight leg jeans, $45, J Brand skinny leg jeans, $176, American apparel, $74, J Brand skinny leg jeans, $176

As you know, you’ll get what you pay for!  If you’re looking to wear this trend for one season, you might wanna spend less.  If you want to make them a new basic in your closet,  a more expensive and better quality pair might be perfect for you.  It is all personal choice!

Just like the celebrities I’m ready to dress these jeans up and down!

Pair them with solid color tops.

Black, white, grey or tan tops with heels instantly make these jeans look chic.  Nicky Hilton’s look above is the perfect example!  Or you can be brave and throw on another color like SJP.

Add a pattern!

A top with stripes, plaids, or dots equals a great pairing.

Layer for your event.

Are you heading out to a fun party or just running errands?  A sheer blouse screams night time, whereas layers or a chunky sweater is perfect for daytime.  Always looking smart and trendy!

Are you down with the colored denim trend?  Where did you get your pair?

P.S. Celebrity photos were found through a Google Image Search.

Most Embarrasing Outfit Post So Far

This is by far the most embarrassing outfit post I’ve ever done. Nope, not because of the pictures, because of what happened while I tried to take these pictures! These were rushed so forgive, please!

We live in an apartment complex, so finding a good location to take a picture by yourself semi-privately can be difficult . Hello, camera remote and tripod!  I started out by the fence across the parking lot right about 6pm.  Why, why, why?

As I was trying to place the tripod/look through view finder, a truck rolled up.  I tried to wave him on but he wanted to talk. Proceed panic lying and awkward conversation!  Lord, please forgive my panic lie. Thank you, Amen!

Him: “Are you taking a picture of the fence?” Me (panicked): “Yes”

Him: “Are you a photographer?” Me: “Trying to be”

Him: “Are you in school for it?” Me: “No, just amateur.”

Him: “Well, I need to talk to you another day, I’ve got a camera that I don’t know how to work.”

….awkward silence….. He waved himself away.

So, I run out to test about where I should stand. Then run back 1/2 way there cause I’m already mortified.  Walking toward me is another man whose been sitting in the car with his wife, watching the whole scene..

Him: “Do you want me to take a picture? We were watching you and just wondered if you needed any help? We felt bad.”

Me, holding up remote: “Oh, thank you so much, I’ve got a remote, that’s so nice of you…”

I’m beyond embarrased at this point and just move the whole tripod to right in front of our door, snap 4-8 photos, and ran up stairs.  I know I’m not the first blogger to go through an awkward session but this was my first.  One day, I’ll be less shy about it…until then.

Blouse: Forever 21

Shorts: Forever 21

Sandals: BKE

P.S.  I love this color combo.  After watching Trend-E! segment on E! News naming it one of the hottest trends of the season, I was dying to try blush and red.   I’m so in love with these shorts that I got them in black too. Prepare to see both pairs alot this spring/summer!  This blouse is beyond one of my fave pieces.  I love the “Fake’em out Necklace” neckline.

I want a new hairstyle

I want a new hairstyle.  Plain and simple.  Now I just got my hair cut not that long ago.  Remember from SuperCuts?  But I’m jonesing for something new.  That trim just didn’t do it.  What I really really really have the urge to do is to dye/cut my hair like this:

Liz Lee from My Life as Liz

I’ve been seeing the promo for season 2 of My Life as Liz and I’m obsessed.  I remember loving her hair last January at the premiere of season 1 but forgot it since I was growing my hair out  for my wedding.  But now fast forward a year, and here we are again…

o.b.s.e.s.s.e.d.

My hair is already about this length and has layers so that’s already done.  The two biggest changes would be the color and the bangs.

I’ve been mulling over it for about a week; I even asked friends on facebook what they thought:

(obviously names and pictures have been hidden)

Talk about mixed results, 3 yes’ and 2 no’s.  Not nearly enough for a decision.  Then I asked hubs. I’ve mentioned it about 5 times now. He’s very vague with answers like “If you like it.” “I not gonna hate anything on you” “It’s different”

Which I read as…He’s not crazy about this idea but is too sweet to tell me no.  Though, he is pretty sure he’ll hate it.  I’M STILL OBSESSED!!

I’ve had bangs before i.e. like last year…..

I loved them and am convinced I need them again (and maybe a few more layers around my face).  So that part will be coming soon….

but I just have to decide about the color.  So lovers, I’m asking you.

What do you think of this color?Do you think I can pull it off?

Its a big change and I need feedback!!

Step out of your normal beauty box-I dyed my hair red!

For our May Shine ! Beauty Guru Challenge, we were asked to “document a beauty transformation”.   We were challenged to step out of our normal beauty routine and try something new/different!

“The makeover could be as simple as wearing that bright red lipstick you’ve been too scared to wear out of the house, or go bold with some new highlights or bangs”

After reading the challenge, I knew immediately what I was going to do! Seriously there was no contemplation. (This had come long before!)

I was going to dye my hair red!

Ever since I saw Confessions of a Shopaholic, Julie and Julia, or anything with Isla Fisher and Amy Adams, I’ve been wanting to transform my hair to their pretty shade!   About February, I found my favorite hair dye ( Perfect 10 ) in a new shade!  Honey Berry(Medium Reddish Blonde)!  The box looked like the color I wanted to achieve, so I bought it.  With a wedding impeding, I decided to wait to dye my locks.  So now about 6 weeks later, its the perfect time!

My hair was sandy blondish (the natural color is a light brown color, I think.)  From the diagram on the box it should turn a even shade of light red.  *crossed fingers*  After wanting to do this for so long, I was no longer nervous, just excited!

I got my bathroom “dye” ready, cleared out the counter, newspapered the floor for drips, and had cleaning wipes handy!  The good think about Perfect 10 dye (it’s the only kind I’ve ever used so I don’t know other ways) its easy to set up and start the process. I mixed, shook, got my gloves on and started applying from the bottom to the top! As I started applying, the dye got darker in the bottle, making me slightly more nervous! 10 minutes later, I washed out the dye and applied the moisturizing cream.  As I washed the dye rinse out of my hair, it was definitely red. Then I started blow drying!  A few minutes later, I had red hair!

I was surprised at first and how much I thought it didn’t change.  It looked only a little bit darker.  Then I took a picture, it looked red! After I put on makeup, I liked it even more.  I have been thoroughly pleased with the results.  The color changes depth and darkness depending on the light.  In direct sunlight, it looks absolutely red.  Indoor lighting makes it look more strawberry blondish.

Some people have noticed; others haven’t. Some can’t figure out what the difference is.  Its definitely been a good change up for summer! I’m glad I took the risk!

If you dyed your hair an out-of-YOUR ordinary color, what would it be? Have you ever done it?

Help! Where do I begin with red lipstick?

Every Christmas, I throw a holiday party.  It has evolved from a few friends coming over randomly to  a nice cocktail party.

3757607657_126ac72e6cIts this saturday. YAY!  I have my dress, shoes, jewelry, and hairstyle all picked out.  But make up is throwing me for a loop. I’ve decided  to do ruby red lips. But I have no red lipstick, liner, gloss, nothing.  And don’t know where to begin on shades!

HELP!!

What is your favorite red lipstick?  Should I use a stain?
What about liner?
How do I get the perfect red pout?
Do you have any hints for helping it last all evening?
