What I Want Right Now, But Would You Wear It?

Usually my posts are though out ahead of time.  This one is NOT.  It is a sudden have-to-share-NOW post.

Going through my usual twitter/facebook/bloglovin’ reading routine, I came across this article on Glamour.  Its a dickey?!  Do you remember these?  I do from when I was little!  My mom had some turtle neck ones that I had to wear in the Christmas parades!

Explanation: Sometimes in November in Texas, it’s still 80 degrees. And when you have to wear your dance studio’s white sweatsuit (it was the 90′s! what do you expect!) and optional black turtle neck, it gets a little hot.  *shout out..Hi Star Makers!  I only took dance there for a few 8 years. I kinda <3 it*  Ahem, anyway, mom made me wear let me borrow her black turtle neck dickey to avoid wearing a full HOT turtle neck!    Oh, how I wish I had my childhood pictures to share a photo of said dickey!   So back to the Glamour article……see this….

Lovely, isn’t it?  The top of her dress is a dickey!!!  I’m in love!  I want a few of these NOW!  They are from a company called CeCe Toppings.  They offer lots to different styles, patterns, colors!

They also boast “great for teens who’s school has a dress code.” Duh! What a good idea! Ok, so I’m a little enamored!

These are the ones I want:

I’m a little stuck on the ruffle ones! I can think of so many combos of dresses and shirts, but with No Buy July starting, I’ll have to dream a little longer!

What do you think of these dickeys..er..”toppings”? Would you wear one?

Designer of the Week: Rachel Roy

Another Tuesday, another Desiger of the Week

RACHEL ROY

“Rachel Roy approaches the design of her eponymous collection with a feminine and modern point of view. Her goal is to create clothing for women who embrace fashion and dress with an effortless elegance and confidence. The results encapsulate a fresh version of glamour that evades the standard protocol for dressing today.

Originally from California, Rachel attended college in Washington DC. Upon graduation, Rachel pursued her passion for design, and moved to New York City to work freelance; styling magazine shoots and music videos ultimately landing an internship at Rocawear.

As an intern she worked in every department at Rocawear, from the mailroom to marketing and finally, women’s design. As the company was in its infancy, Rachel quickly proved herself as an essential commodity, ultimately to become Creative Director overseeing seven licensees and running all of the design departments and their teams for Rocawear Juniors and Girls.

In Fall 2004, she applied her sophisticated aesthetic to her own collection, RACHEL ROY, which debuted in department and specialty stores for Spring 2005. With striking silhouettes, a sophisticated color palette and inventive pairings which transition from day to evening, Roy has garnered editorial acclaim in publications such as Vogue, Elle, Harper’s Bazaar, W and Vanity Fair.

Michelle Obama, Eva Mendes, Kate Hudson, Jennifer Garner, Iman, Lucy Liu, Sharon Stone and Penelope Cruz among others have worn RACHEL ROY at Hollywood’s most prestigious events, and in January 2007 Rachel was invited to appear as a guest on The Oprah Winfrey Show, a milestone in a still young career.  Also in 2007, Roy was inducted into the CFDA as a new member where she stands alongside other esteemed fashion industry individuals.

RACHEL ROY NEW YORK has grown to include four full collections each year, and in June 2008, created a joint venture with Jones Apparel Group Inc. in the hopes of expanding the wholesale business globally, introduce new product categories and open stand-alone stores in the United States and abroad.  Jones Apparel Group is supporting Rachel Roy in launching a Rachel Rachel Roy diffusion brand that will be offered exclusively through Macy’s, Inc. beginning in August 2008.  To date, the RACHEL ROY collections are available at Saks Fifth Avenue, Bergdorf Goodman, Neiman Marcus, Nordstrom and top specialty stores worldwide. (About)

Style.com’s Meenal Mistry said this of Rachel’s Spring 2011 Collection: “The first thing you saw walking into Rachel Roy‘s presentation was a nude-tone rainbow of trenchcoat-based looks on mannequins. “I call it the Band-Aid capsule,” explained Roy. “You know how Band-Aids disappear on your skin? That’s what I want these to do in a woman’s wardrobe.” The tight nine-look group of coats and dresses worked variations on the iconic utilitarian piece: a khaki coat edged in a large ruffle, a peachy belted sequin dress with epaulets. Roy seemed to kick herself for not doing it earlier. “The trench is so important to me, personally,” she said. “Why am I not focusing on it?”

Sometimes the best thing is right under your nose. What does Roy’s customer want? They want to look like her—forever polished and noticeably stylish yet never silly. And today the designer quieted some of the unnecessary flourishes that sometimes get in her way and instead let a mix of jewel brights and bold prints do the talking on slim shifts, loose dolman-sleeve blouses, and flaring skirts. Two peplum bustiers trussed superfluously over button-down shirts were the sole exceptions. “The intention is to grow with every collection,” said Roy. Consider this a nice little spurt.” Style.com

Quick Style Guide: Ways to feel more chic in your glasses!

First off, I’m contacts girl.  I’ve worn contacts since I was about 12.  My glasses have always been my backup.  I wear them when I’m too lazy to put in my contacts, when my eyes get too dry, and around the house. Because they are the backup plan, I don’t really like the way I look in them and don’t wear them out often. People are always surprised to learn that I wear glasses.

Well fast forward to last week, I lost my last pair of disposable contacts.  Complicate that with eye doctor difficulty and I’m stuck wearing my glasses for about 3 weeks.  NNOOO!!

For the first few days, my self esteem went down the drain.  I hated the way I looked and felt super self conscious.   That wasn’t going to work. Confidence here I come!  So here are some tips for how to feel more chic in glasses:

Amp up your eye-makeup

Eyes get a little bit lost behind glasses. So use a little more eyeliner or mascara. Or try a darker shade of shadow.

Try different hair styles

I’m notorious for letting my hair air dry and pinning it back.  While it’s cute, it’s kind of boring.  With my glasses, it’s way boring.  Experiment with twists, braids, ponies.   Dry it straight, scrunch it or curl it.  Change it up.

Match your clothes/accessories to your frames

My glasses are black framed.  I’ve been adding some kind of black to each outfit whether its pants, a pattern, a sweater or in jewelry. Matching to some extent is always chic.

Smile

Even if you’re self conscious, ignore it and smile.  Eventually, you’ll overcome it and realize that no one notices your glasses as much as you do!  You’re way cuter than you think!  Plus, who can resist a genuine grin!

While these may not be new ideas, even just a reminder helps your own self confidence.  If you feel great about yourself and the way you look, your glasses won’t change that.  Work it girl!

Ok so in doing a little more research for this post, I came across some great links:
