Inspired by a Stranger

I think this is the first time I’ve shown an item twice. You’ve seen this romper before here.  Beside the point.   This outfit and the decision to buy this romper were inspired by a stranger when I was shopping in F21.

A teenage girl who was about 4 inches taller, much skinnier and had long flowing wavy blonde hair, was wearing this romper with tan boots and a pretty tan belt.  She looked beautiful.  I knew after seeing her in this romper that I had to have it.  Yes, i know different pieces look differently on different people.  Here’s my take on her look! P.S. Honey, whoever you are, thanks for your inspiration! You are too cute!

I got quite a few funny stares wearing this today, but that’s what personal style is about right!?? I don’t dress for others; I dress for me.  So, I don’t really care.

I also managed to match my accessories (on purpose) and my nailpolish (unintentional) to my outfit.

Romper: Forever 21

Boots: Steve Madden

Belt: Forever 21

Jewelry: Forever 21

Then I started taking pictures of my dog….Meet Lela Rose!

She’s discreetly\not so discreetly named after the designer Lela Rose. I didn’t wanna name her Chanel, Fendi, Gucci, Prada, or Coco, or anything else.

P.S. ALWAYS adopt!!  Use Petfinder or your local pound!! Do not support puppy mills!  Who could abandon that precious face above?!

Friend Friday: What to wear–plan or random?

This week’s Friend Friday questions are all about wardrobe!  Also included in this post, is an outfit post.  I figured it would be fitting! So, here we go:

1. How do you determine what you will wear that day? It mainly depends on what I’m doing that day.

The occasion really determines the outfit.  On days off that I’m running errands, I still try to dress up my jeans with a cute top and boots.

2. Do you plan outfits out in advance for a whole week, month,
weekend?

The most I ever plan for is about 2 days.  I usually still end up changing my mind.  Its like when you go on vacation, planning carefully for what you’ll wear and then you get to your destination and are disappointed with your choices.  Or at least this is what happens to me every time.  I’m just to indecisive to plan that far.  Kudos to those who do! I’m totally impressed!

3. Do you have any specific way of tracking outfits and items already worn so you don’t repeat?

Nope, sure don’t!  Its just alot more random. I do save all the photos in specific computer folders, so I do glance through others pics just to make sure.  Hhmm…maybe I should write it down or something.
4. How do you discover new combinations of items in your closet?
(Trial try-ons?  Hanging items together?)

Sometimes its trial try-ons, but most of the time when I am looking for new combos I pull tops or dresses that I haven’t worn in a while.  Like that plaid shirt from earlier this week.  This has resulted in multiple great outfits this year!  Don’t just go to your regular pieces.  It gets boring.

5. To streamline the process for 2011 what is one new thing you can do to cut down your dressing time?

Hhhmm, I’m not sure there is one thing in particular I need to do.  It doesn’t take me a long time to dress in the morning (most days!)  SOMETIMES it does take over 20 minutes.

What I’m Wearing:

Dress: Cream/Black Polka dotted dress from Pacsun

Boots: Chinese Laundry Night Owl Boots in Black

Necklace: Vintage Glass Beads from an Antique store in IN

I loved this outfit!  It was the first time I wore this dress and converted my boots to thigh-high boots!  It made me feel super sultry! Yes, they are really worth it! The lace detailing at the top of the dress made it feel super girly!  Loved the mix of tough and feminine!

What do you do about dressing in the morning? Do you plan ahead?

Outfit of the day: A little bit of fall…

A little bit of fall goes along way.  I’m not usually a button down girl, even though I really like them.  So when I remembered this pink/pinstrip F21 button down in the back of my closet I was thrilled.  I’ve never even worn it. *womp, womp* Fashion Fail, right?  Well, after this day It’s a fall/winter staple.  If fits perfectly and looks pretty good if I say so myself. Though I’m unhappy that it doesn’t look that pink in this post.

I added skinny jeans and ugg-looking boots.  (psst..they’re actually Girls boots from Old Navy for like $20 last year! Thank goodness for tiny feet, sometimes.) No one has ever called me out on them and I love them.

I’m also not a big fan of gold jewelry so the pieces I do have I’m head over heels with.  The peace necklace came from a set from Target, I wear them all indiviually though.  The earrings also are from Target.

Here you can see how pink it is.  Isn’t pretty?!?!

I’m getting into these outfit posts, I have fun doing them.

Do you? Would you rather me stick to other news and forget the outfits?

Quick Style Guide: Dealing with a “Not-So-Fall” Fall

I’m tired of the heat. Sick and tired of it.  For the last few weeks, the average temperature has been 100 degrees.  While usually the temps may begin to drop in other states, around here it’s gonna stay hot.   See, we don’t really get a fall.  (Two Thanksgivings ago, it was 75 degrees)  We get hotness that one day finally really drops to cold.  This eliminates any chance to wear cute Fall clothes! *tears*  And I’m ready to wear sweaters, jackets, tights, and boots!  So, how do you accomplish this in such a warm “fall”? Transition carefully!  Let’s break it down in this Quick Style Guide:

Pants:

I’ve lived in skirts/dresses and shorts for the past 2 ½ months.  And I’ve loved it, but I’m ready to pull on some pants now. To make it feel more like the fall that it should be slip on a pair of jeans. Just like jean shorts, you can wear practically anything with your jeans.  Choose a dark wash to accent the wonderful fall shades.   If you’re not quite ready to cover up those ankles, roll your jeans up.  Voila! Pegged jeans! The perfect in between!

Jackets/Cardis:

Oh, how I love fall jackets! Trench coats are nothing I could ever wear around here in the fall only in winter. If you’re in the same boat, look for short sleeve jackets with lots of style.  I.E. Cute cuts, Interesting fabrics, Bold colors, Unique hardware/embellishments, or Distinctive collar.  Play it up! Have fun with it! You’ll be able to pull out that boyfriend blazer soon enough! (I’m dying to wear mine!)  Wear them with skirts and dresses for a different twist. Suggesstion: look for lighter weight fabrics!  NO wool or tweed, too hot! Cardis have pretty much the same rules! Lightweight fabrics, pretty details, perfect!

Shirts:

You wanna wear long sleeves, but think you’ll pass out if you do? On a little bit cooler day, pair a long sleeve(pushed up) or ¾ length sleeve shirt with your shorts. The effect is always cute, and still keeps you cool! Also, chose lightweight fabrics or sheer! Put a cami on under a sheer shirt/blouse for cool fall look!

Shoes:

Boots oh how I love you! How I can’t wait to wear tights with you.  But now, you make my feet/legs hot. Same for you, eh?  For an easier transistion, try booties, or ankle boots! Not quite as tall on your calf, and not nearly as hot!  Or try on a pair of oxfords! You’d be amazed how cute and trendy they really are!

And it just so happens that today, I’m wearing jeans and a short sleeve jacket, since it’s a nice cooler 90 degrees.  Compared to the 120 degrees on black concrete, today’s temperature feels like the beginning of fall!

What are your summer-to-fall transition pieces?

Christmas Honesty

The shopping season is in full swing as people rush to find the perfect gifts, and hope to receive the perfect gift.  TV Commercials are ripe with deals and sales. My favorites has been the Target ads, with the little girl who confesses all her bad behavior when she thinks her parents spent too much and her utter shock, when they reveal they haven’t.

In that spirit, here’s a little of my Christmas honesty: I’ve done most of my woman-with-giftshopping but still have a few people that are just difficult to buy for.  And I fear that I’m becoming a difficult person on other people’s lists.

The Reason: I don’t ask for clothes, shoes, purses, etc. from others because I’m so damn picky.  Last year, I wanted a pair of black boots from BF.  I wouldn’t let him pick them out, nor did he want to because he knew I would be so particular.  Of course, I knew the whole time what I was getting but I was ok with that because I knew they were perfect.  (After all, I did pick them out!)

This isn’t to say I’m not grateful!! No one has to give a gift and just the thought alone is meaningful. But I would never intentionally ask for anything fashion related because I am so picky and would never want someone to think I didn’t like their gift.  I don’t like hurting people’s feelings! *frown*  When people do give me those things, I usually end up loving them (example: My aunt got me a cardigan last year that has be come one of my go-to cardis this year!) But I would rather not even take the risk of (a) not liking it [me being picky!] or (b) disappointing someone.

So, I’ll stick to asking for movies, music, and tech gifts instead, which I know I’ll love! That way no one has to be shocked when opening gifts.

Do you have a Christmas confession? Spill away dears!

Oh, and in case you haven’t seen it here’s the hilarious Christmas morning confession Target ad!
