Pinterest Project: Tuna Can Candle Holders

We all know Pinterest is just about the greatest thing ever and inspires ALL kinds of projects.  (My list for pinterest to-do’s is miles long!)  This project is on this list and actually got done! CHECK!

It was so easy that it took 5 minutes and is now in my living room.  Here’s the original  how to:

 Supplies:

Two Cans of Tuna

42 or so Clothes Pins

2 Tea Lights

Open, empty, and wash two cans of tuna.  You can make a sandwich or tuna casserole enjoy while you make it! It’s ok if there is still some glue, the pins will cover them.

Start placing pins all around the tuna can edge.

It took 21 clothes pins to go around my tuna cans.

Place a tea light in the center and light.  The original tutorial used a glass container with a tealight.  (Either way works.)

I am absolutely in love with this easy easy project! Right now they are in the tray on our coffee table, but my end goal for them is to be citronella candles out on the patio.  I also think they would be gorgeous painted or glittered for an absolute unique touch.   Dont’ forget to follow me on pinterest!

DIY Magazine: Spring 2012 Issue

Guys, I’m in love.  In love with a magazine.  Have you heard of DIY Magazine?  It’s part of Better Homes & Garden so of course it’s fabulous.  The new spring issue has me drooling and itching to get DIYing.

These are a few of my favorite things…“Tilt A Whirl”  Painting Glass Vases…page 12/13

“Concrete Jungle”  Cement Block Bench….page 30-34 (picture from pg. 32)

This bench makes me want a backyard NOW!  How many people would have a cement block bench…and NO ONE would ever try to steal it!

“DIY Get the Look Style Guide”  ….pages 56 & 57

Following a front porch makeover, this front porch style guide is adorable.  I would mix the pink door with the funky oval numbers, the flower rug, and the star light pendant.

………………………………..

The “Hip Hues” article and spread has me obsessing.  It is by far the most coveted part of the issue.  It takes us through designer Kat Schintzius’ amazing house!!! Her whole house is beautiful, these are just a few of my faves.

Pages 80 thru 87…

1) how fabulous is the fabric for the shade!! 2) I love the retro feel of this WHOLE kitchen. WANT, WANT, WANT!  pg. 84

The Shams, the side table, the lamp, the pattern mixing.  Excuse me while I faint!

Pg. 86

I want a retro bathroom! I love how she made it modern with fun and funky colors and prints.  Pg. 87

2012 Fashion Resolution #1

The first month of 2012 is almost over and I’m just getting started on my resolutions! My first fashion resolution is….

shoes

to wear heels/wedges/shoes with height at least one to two days a week.

Why you ask? Because for 2 years all I wore every day was heels to work.  Then, I got a job where I’m on my feet most of the day and heels weren’t practical.

Though that was the reality, it doesn’t mean I don’t still LOVE my heels! I look at them longingly wishing I had an occasion to wear them.

No MORE!

I will make an occasion to wear them…whenever, wherever.  I don’t believe that heels are just for special occasions.  This new resolution starts this week! Every month I’ll do a recap of the heels that I wore during the month!  Cheers to starting a new challenge!

Happy Halloween

We celebrated Halloween on Saturday, dressing up and everything!   I was the BLACK SWAN. You know, from the movie.

I think it was creeper when I smiled!

I made my tutu, pinned ribbon to make the halter, used tulle as my “ballet laces”, painted a little girls crown, and added the gloves.

Makeup: Eyeliner used as lip liner.  Mascara used on eyebrows, liquid liner to outline/fill in, and silver eyeliner to achieve a “feathered” look.

I think it turned out pretty good!

Hope everyone has a fun and safe and most of all

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!

Apartment Therapy: Guest Room Projects the befores and afters

I’ve been a little absent lately because I’ve been working majorly hard on redoing our guest room! It all started with a little night stand!  Then came the matching desk, the computer chair, and the surprise buy of a headboard.  Let’s get started shall we?

THE STRIPED DESK

BEFORE

I didn’t manage to take a before of this desk with the drawers.  Husband took this one as I sanded it.  Doesn’t matter because the after is all the better…..

AFTER

I painted the white stripes directly in the middle of the drawers, which was NOT where the knob holes were.  See now I have a matching set!

THE COMPUTER CHAIR

For the new desk, I wanted a new chair. One that had padding and a nice back.  I found an vintage chair from a thrift shop for $2.50.  Yep, you read that right. Two dollars and fifty cents.

BEFORE

It was pretty rough but got a whole makeover.  I lysoled everything and replaced it all except the wood…

AFTER

I replaced the cushion with a thicker pad (leftover foam from my ottoman) covered in a quatrafoil pattern.  The wood got a good coat of gold spray paint! I love the result.

THE UNEXPECTED HEADBOARD

The day we got the chair, we also hit up a few garage sales.  I found a headboard for the guest room bed for $10.

BEFORE It came home with us and got its own help.  This is when it was sanded down.

AFTER

I mixed up the white stripes because I didn’t want perfect symmetry!

Everything is now in its proper places but I’m not quite finished with linens and organization.  When I am, I promise to show it all off!
