DIY Magazine: Spring 2012 Issue

Guys, I’m in love.  In love with a magazine.  Have you heard of DIY Magazine?  It’s part of Better Homes & Garden so of course it’s fabulous.  The new spring issue has me drooling and itching to get DIYing.

These are a few of my favorite things…“Tilt A Whirl”  Painting Glass Vases…page 12/13

“Concrete Jungle”  Cement Block Bench….page 30-34 (picture from pg. 32)

This bench makes me want a backyard NOW!  How many people would have a cement block bench…and NO ONE would ever try to steal it!

“DIY Get the Look Style Guide”  ….pages 56 & 57

Following a front porch makeover, this front porch style guide is adorable.  I would mix the pink door with the funky oval numbers, the flower rug, and the star light pendant.

The “Hip Hues” article and spread has me obsessing.  It is by far the most coveted part of the issue.  It takes us through designer Kat Schintzius’ amazing house!!! Her whole house is beautiful, these are just a few of my faves.

Pages 80 thru 87…

1) how fabulous is the fabric for the shade!! 2) I love the retro feel of this WHOLE kitchen. WANT, WANT, WANT!  pg. 84

The Shams, the side table, the lamp, the pattern mixing.  Excuse me while I faint!

Pg. 86

I want a retro bathroom! I love how she made it modern with fun and funky colors and prints.  Pg. 87

The Updated Up Dos

Don’t lose your marbles just yet, but I’m back!  How are you feeling this 2012?  I can’t believe the month is already half way over!  We took a fun little vacay and did a bunch of outdoor activities (hiking, fishing, camp-firing and more) I took tons of pictures which you’ll probably see here.  And most of all we had a wonderful holiday season.  I’m back and ready to blog with passion!  I’ve got another unexpected trip this next weekend which will lead to some fun posts:

  • packing it all in a carry on
  • winter wedding wear
  • easy travel wear

and maybe more…but for now let’s talk about hair.

I’ve been growing out my hair (lengthwise and colorwise) for a year now.  It’s gotten extremely long! (pictures to follow soon) and I’m having a hard time figuring out what to do with it.  huh? what?  My favorite way to wear it is curled, but I’m too lazy lately.  I’ve been pulling it back and blowdrying it quite a bit.  1/2 up and down, middle part with pinned back bangs, and pony tails have been my go to’s.

That’s why I’ve been on the search for different, cute, and sleek styles that I’m not bored of yet!

THE SOCK BUN

Made In Pretoria has THE best visual tutorial!!

Overview:  Take a sock, cut off the toe.  Roll sock into a round doughnut looking thing.  Make a high ponytail on your head.  Pull end of pony through the middle of sock doughnut.  Wrap end of pony around doughnut.  Roll pony and doughnut down toward head.  Slightly pull hair around doughnut to hide sock.

THE LOOP

This one comes from Penny Pincher Fashion (picture too!)

Overview: Pull your hair into a low pony.  Take out a small section at the very bottom of the pony (This will be used later.)  Start to tie up pony with an elastic.  On the last pull through, only pull it half way.  Leave it in the loop form.  Take the small loose section and wrap around elastic. Bobby pin the spare hair underneath.

THE BUBBLE PONYTAIL

Jessica Harlow has a video of it too!

Overview:  Tease top of hair.  Pull into a pony in the middle of head.  Pull out hair near the face.  Use clear elastics (3 to 4) to wrap sections to form “bubbles”.

Thankful Thoughts: What I Love About Myself

Two years ago, I started this series. (Well, starting now it is a series!)  Things you are thankful for about yourself. Not your inside, your outside.

Ladies, we are incredibly hard on ourselves.  You can’t tell me when you look in the mirror you don’t say something negative.  There are so many negative things, that today, I want you to be positive!  Find 5 things you like about yourself, especially your appearance!   You can leave your answers in the comments or link up below.  Read mine, others, and your own and see how positive thoughts about yourself are so good for you!

:::Thankful Thoughts:::

What I Love About Myself

1.  I love my hair.

As I grow it out to a long length and also grow out my natural hair color, it is getting shinier and healthier.  Whether it is curled or straightened, I’m finding it is one of my best assets!

2.  I like my waist.

With belted dresses, high waisted skirts, or fitted shirts, I’m finding that my waist is the skinniest part of me.  Duh, right?  When I cinch clothes in at my waist, I can see my curves and it’s been nice to discover I have curves. Small or big as they might be, I like that my body seems in enough proportion with my height.

3. I like my fingernails.

They are nicely shaped, the right thickness and grow fast. I’m able to paint and repaint without much damage.  Plus, they look really good painted or unpainted.

4.  I like my small feet.

I can wear anything from a girl’s size 4 to a women’s size 6.  (Sometimes backfires, most designer sizes start at 6).  Also, usually smaller sizes aren’t the first to sell out.  I’m able to find the shoes I like even in the most popular styles.

5. I like my brown eyes.

I was the little girl that longed for baby blues.  LONGED! I even tried turquoise contacts. (They don’t work, I couldn’t see out of them! It defeated the purpose!)  As I’ve gotten older (the wise ole’ age of 25<–this is sarcasm.), I love my brown eyes.   And since the application of winged eyeliner, I think they are emphasized more and it just makes me look prettier.  Such a small move has made me love them and myself more.

There you have it. Five things I love about myself. What do you love about yourself?  Leave your comment or link below! I hope you have thankful thougths about yourself today and a very…

Love My Links: Web Randomness

There is no rhyme or reason to this edition of Love my Links. Just fun!

Love Maegan transformed regular black pumps into adorable houndstooth heels! (not for the DIY faint of heart.)

Katy Rose of Modly Chic paired her leopard shirt with flares and red, inspiring a few new outfits for myself!

I found my way back to this awesome scarf dress diy from The Glamourai.  Seems easy enough with a gorgeous result.  Might be a new spring project!

Dash’s Cat Eye Closeup is such a pretty glance at my favorite new makeup trend.  The cat eye!  If only I were brave enough to get that close to my face with my camera.

That’s a few fun links to get you through your day! Hope you enjoyed them as much as I did! Have a lovely Tuesday!
