Wanted: The Perfect Purse

The worst has happened.  My purse is dying.  It is on its last breath.  The strap is almost to threads and the zipper won’t work.  I’ve carried it for a whole year.  For my purses, that’s like 12 years.  But now, I want a new one.  I’ve wanted a new one for quite a while, but I’m having the hardest time finding the perfect one!  Why? Because I’ve become a purse snob.  Not a brand snob, a requirement snob.  If it doesn’t have everything I want, it is OUT!

It’s not that I want much, just a few things:

  • A Crossbody design
  • An adjustable strap
  • A fun or neutral color
  • Subtle hardware (no bright gold or silver)
  • A classic/timeless look

and the most important part….the perfect size.

I don’t have a measurement, but can eye the size.  My current (pathetic) purse is a great size, but it needs to be just a tad bigger.

Think about it.  A woman’s purse is a REALLY important thing.  You take it everywhere, it holds some of the most important things you need, and if you lost it, you wouldn’t know what to do.  It can’t be to big or you’ll stuff it with things and it gets to heavy.  If it is too little, you can’t fit all your necessities.  It’s gotta be just the right thing.

I’m willing to spend some money on it.  My max is $150.  I plan to carry this thing for a LONG time.  Thus, if I pay some money for it, it better last.  I think that’s why I’m having such a hard time.  Wish me luck!

What are your requirements for the perfect purse?

The Grown Up Bow, a DIY

Remember last week’s wedding wear inspiration?  The wedding has come and gone. And of course, leave it to me to STILL not have pictures on the blog for it…the What I Wore post is coming soon….But in preparation for the wedding, I made an accessory to go with my dress. A bow.  Yes, a bow.

This isn’t your daughters bow.

It’s the grown up bow.

No, ruffles, no buttons, no frills. Simple and sophisticated.

I was inspired by this picture from pinterest.  I love how loose, flowy, and sexy her hair is but its still dressy with the bow.  I didn’t have time to traipse all over God’s green earth to find a bow. So, I made one.

I ran to hobby lobby to buy flat alligator hair clips, and 1 1/2″ thick black satin ribbon. (total cost was around $4, my ribbon was 50% off) I also used a glue gun.

  • First, I cut one long strand of ribbon.  I guesstimate about 12 inches.
  • From here, form the ribbon into a loop.  Adjust the loop smaller or bigger, depending on how far you want it too stick out on the sides of your head. Then hot glue the ends of your loop together.
  • Find the middle of your loop and pinch this together with the ends.  You now have a “bow” form.   Glue this together.
  • Cut another piece of ribbon about 3″ long.  Center your “bow” in the middle of the 3″ ribbon.  Fold the sides of the 3″ section over and glue.  Voila! you have made the bow!
  • Center your bow on the alligator clip and hot glue. DONE!

Your end result will look like above!  I have no source for this tutorial since I just looked at the other picture and free-handed crafted it.

Here’s what it looked like when I was all fixed up. It had JUST the effect I wanted! Sophisticated, but sexy.  and yes, I took a picture of the picture on my camera…..

Good news for you…

I’ve decided to give 3 of these beautiful bows AWAY!!

Just leave a comment below, on my facebook page, or on twitter telling me how you would wear it.  There will be one winner from each.  Giveaway ends January 31st! GOOD LUCK!

Wear Neon Without Looking Like an 80′s Movie Extra

When you think of NEON, what comes to mind? The 80′s of course! Big hair and neon everywhere!

Well, neon colors are back this summer with a vengeance! Big name brands like Burberry Prorsum, Jil Sander, and Max Mara all included neon on their runways for S/S ’11!  Wearing this trend isn’t easy though.  Do you really wanna look like an extra from Valley Girl?

That answer is NO. Here are a few tips to wear the Neon trend and not look like you stepped out of an 80′s music video!

  • DO use NEON in your cosmetics! If you’re not ready to wear neon colored clothing, incorporate the trend in your lipstick or nail color.  Try a bright hued lipstick.  Stila Cosmetics has some great long lasting lip color in shades like Exhilarating (a hot pink) and Outrageous (a neon coral).

China Glaze Nail Polish has enough Neon shades to blind you! Their new Island Escape collection is has the perfect neon shades!

  • DO wear only one neon item at a time! Wearing a neon skirt, neon shoes, neon accessories, AND neon lipstick is overkill.  This kind of combo equals 80′s.  Wear only one of these items to prevent a electric clown look!
  • DO incorporate neon with accessories! From a ring to earrings to a bracelet, a little neon goes a long way. Try a bright belt, bag or pair of shoes for a fun touch with out much commitment!

  • DO pair your neon with a neutral colors! Black, White, Brown, Tan, Cream, and navy are all considered neutral colors! Pair any of them with a bright item and you’re right on trend!  A simple neutral with a pop of neon creates a flawless look.  “The neutral grounds the bright fluorescent color accenting the ensemble.” (Pretty Shiny Sparkly) EXAMPLE:

Remember pair it with neutrals, add it in accessories, or incorporate it in lipstick/nailpolish!

Whatever way you choose, wear your brights with pride!

Splurge vs. Save: The Little White Dress

Easter is in a month, Spring is here, and gosh darn it, I’m ready for WHITE! So enter this edition of

:::Splurge vs. Save:::

The Little White Dress

You’ve heard of the LBD, well for spring/summer you need the Little White Dress.  Throw it on for anything, dress it up or down. Its always a summer must have.

The Detailed Dress

The Nanette Lepore dress has some amazing details! The square neck, the cutout lace are beautiful, but that price tag sure isn’t.  The F21 dress is $20. My wallet likes it better.  Thus, it wins.

The Crochet Dress

The Suzi Chin dress is lovely, but layers/tiers on the F21 add so much more interest.  And the scalloped hem sets off the dress. F21 wins this round.

The Lace Shift Dress

So…the only difference I can really tell is the neckline.  The quality on the McGinn dress is probably much higher but the $23 price tag means you could afford shoes too.

You might be able to tell, Forever 21 always wins.  Yes it does.  The prices cant be beat and with the right care your F21 dresses can last at least a few years.  They have qutie a few white dresses to choose from, so take your pick.

And this didn’t fit in with the rest of the dresses, but this is the Little White Dress that I want.  I’d take off the tie waist and a colorful belt or big pretty necklace.
